1.How do I get started? - Personal Training / Semi-Private Training

Your first move is deciding to make an appointment for a FREE consultation. If you wish, you can contact me through the ‘Book Your Place’ page to set one up, or phone directly. There is no requirement to make any purchase during this consultation & you can decide what you would like to do afterwards. Any decision to take action is yours, so you've nothing to lose by setting up an appointment.

Note: If you purchase a training package of 4,8 or 12 weeks, you are eligible for an InBody scan. You can see more on this here


2. How do I get started? - Online Training

Choose your Online Training Program form from the training options and make a payment though the website. I will be in contact with you shortly afterwards (within 24hours) with follow up questions to gather information so that I can put your personalised plan together. We will then be in contact weekly - with additional support between check-ins, for the duration of your package term to continually adapt & progress your workouts, to check your own progress & adherence to your training plan.


3. What can I expect from my consultation?

Your consultation will give you the opportunity to come and see the facility, meet with your trainer, talk through your goals, objectives and any concerns. We’ll discuss how we can address each of them and have any of your questions answered. You’ll be required to fill in a screening and waiver form before we carry out a short, non-invasive, non-strenuous movement screening procedure to assess your current physical state, including muscle range, mobility and flexibility as well as your joints, your balance, muscle symmetry and ensure there are no underlying issues and that you are safe to train. We’ll talk about your daily habits including current lifestyle and nutrition to see what immediate changes you can begin to make to help you get started. We can discuss what kind of training schedule would suit you, your own schedule and your goals.

Note: Be sure to wear something you can easily move in, for completing your assessment and your reading glasses if you need them for completing your intake form.

If you decide you want to get started;

If you make a purchase and sign up on the day, we can record your starting body stats measurements - if you are comfortable to do so and you may also opt to use the InBody Scanner. We will also do any relevant testing and/or pictures for comparisons later on - Note that any pictures taken are optional and will be on your own phone or camera, I will never ask to share them. Body stats (weight/girth measurements etc) are a great way to closely monitor progress, but again this is totally optional. I work strictly confidentially with all of my clients and all details are private.


4. Can I get an InBody Composition Analysis at my contultation?

Whether you’ve already purchased a package prior to your consultation, or you purchase a package during your consultation, you will be offered an InBody scan at a massively reduced rate.

If you have not and do not wish to purchase a Personal Training Package you may still ask for an InBody scan to be completed at a standard cost of €40.


5. Where are you located?

The gym location is in Walkinstown, Dublin12. You will find it across the road from SuperValu on Walkinstown Road.

6. What are your opening hours?

The studio is open for appointments Monday to Friday 7am-12noon & 5pm-9pm (last appointment 8pm). Open hours are by appointment only. You can see our full appointment schedule on our ‘contact’ page.


7. Who can come and train with PKV Personal Training?

Anyone can, so long as you complete and clear the screening form and are over 18 years of age.


8. How long is a personal training session?

All Private Personal Training & Semi-Private Training sessions are 45 minutes each. You have an additional 5 minutes each side of your appointment time to get changed or update body stats where necessary.

9. Am I too old to start training?

Absolutely not! As we age our bones weaken and muscles break down. Keeping active, especially with some resistance training as we get older, keeps bone density strong and keeps muscles working effectively which helps us to keep moving well and allows for a better quality of life and independence as we age.


10. Do I need to be fit to start training?

No you don't need to be fit to start, Personal Training allows for a plan to be designed to engage individuals in a way that is appropriate to that persons level of fitness, abilities and objectives. No matter what your current level or ability is, it's a starting point that we can work and progress from.


11. What should I wear & bring with me for my training session?

Be sure to wear something comfortable that you can easily move in & is supportive. For your initial consultation, be sure to also bring your reading glasses if you require them to complete your intake form. Good runners, tshirt, shorts, leggings or tracksuit legs should be worn for training. Please bring a hand/sweat towel & bottled water with you too!


12. How often should I train?

A beginner should train at least 2 times a week to see progress being made. If you already make good use of a gym membership or are actively taking part in another sport, you might opt to train here 1 to 2 times a week. For those with training experience and looking to make serious headway, you should be training at least 3 & up to 5 days a week.


13. Are there toilet & changing facilities in the gym?

Yes, there is a toilet, a private changing room & lockers in the training studio. There is no shower.


14. Is there car parking available?

Yes, there is plenty of free parking available in the yard. Clients are encouraged to use the space directly outside the gym door which is reserved for clients use. Note - Additional parking spaces at the shops outside the yard has park by text charges. Alternatively there is parking across the road at SuperValu.


15. What bus routes pass PKV Personal Training on the Walkinstown Road?

Bus routes that stop right outside are the 27, 77a, 123. The 9, 56a, 151 routes are also close by. Nearest Dublin Bus stops: 2183, 2332, 2103.


16. What are my payment options?

Accepted forms of payment;

17. Can I bring and play my own music playlist?

YES! For private training sessions, or semi-private training sessions you can bring your own playlist on any bluetooth compatible device to play in the gym while you train!
